Keeping Blaine Wetland Sanctuary healthy
Voluteers from Aveda spent the afternoon working with us to restore the habitat at Blaine Wetlands Sanctuary. They girdled hundreds of aspen trees that were shading out vegetation and encroaching on the boardwalk in the Sanctuary. While aspens are native to Minnesota and a beneficial tree in many spaces, they can harm sensitive tree-less habitats like the Blaine Wetland Sanctuary.Controlling their propogation will keep this wetland intact and healthy, without the use of herbicides. It will create an environment where native species will be able to germinate.
