ABC News: Timberwolves and Lynx Staff Plant Trees with Minnesota Military Members
June 09, 2016 by Jennie LissarragueMinnesota basketball players are seeing environmental benefits from their work on the court. The Lynx and the Timberwolves agreed that for every three-point shot made in the month of April, they would donate a tree as part of NBA’s Commitment to Service program. On Thursday, Timberwolves and Lynx staff members joined military members from the United Heroes League to plant 22 oak trees at the South Washington Conservation Corridor, which is a Great River Greening site.Great River Greening started in 1995 as a volunteer planting project on the St. Paul riverfront and has since grown to be a state leader in restoration.“Twenty-two is great, and it’s perfect for the 30 people that we have out on site here, but, you know, the more the better for them and for us,” Great River Greening Manager Katie McCann said with a laugh. The group chose oak trees because of their fire resilience and their longevity.
