June 2, 2014Great River Greening will lead a community planting event Saturday June 7, as  one of the very first steps taken in implementing the Wayzata Lake Effect, a 10-year concept recently approved by the Wayzata City Council to help enhance the Lake Minnetonka lakefront.Thirty volunteers will join the community-based conservation nonprofit in planting native wildflowers, grasses and shrubs, nearby the Section Foreman’s House to create a natural shoreline that will increase green space, manage stormwater, and improve habitat and ecological diversity.Volunteers are still needed for this event.When: Saturday, June 7th!Where: Section Foreman’s House 738 Lake Street E, Wayzata, MNWhat: 30 volunteers will plant native wildflowers, grasses and shrubs, including Marsh Milkweed, Blazing Star, Wild Strawberry, Cord Grass, Big Bluestem, Prairie Rose, and Native Honey Suckle, to increase green space, manage stormwater, and improve habitat and ecological diversity.The Section Foreman’s House is one of nine activity centers in the framework for Wayzata Lake Effect that help organize opportunities for development.  It includes storm water management to enhance lake’s water quality, as well as adding a year-round food vendor and winter warming house, additional docks, and under-track tunnel connection from Lake Street and Superior Blvd.This project is made possible with support City of Wayzata, and MN DNR Shoreland Habitat Program
