John is now the fourth generation to continue work on the land. Previous generation farmed the entire property, but John has taken a different view and has converted 47 acres of tillable cropland in to native prairie. He has also restored 23 acres of wetlands, and cleared several woodlands of invasive buckthorn. In 2016 he converted the final acres of crop land to native grasses, leaving behind a history of traditional farming.

Because of his work, John was named Conservation Leader of the Year by Scott County in 2016. Learn more about his work with Scott County Soil and Water Conservation District
