Recap: Silvopasture Oak Savanna Restoration Volunteer Workshop

Great River Greening’s Brad Gordon wants to send a shout out to everyone who helped with the Silvopasture Oak Savanna Restoration Volunteer Workshop this June.

“All 12 attendees told us they had a great time. Tyler Carlson's farm, Early Boots Farm, is a beautiful location. The group planted 44 trees, seeded 3 acres, and built 4 protective fence enclosures. Based on the questions that were asked, we expect that couple of farmers will try some of the ideas we shared on their own farms. Our format also allowed for a lot of interactive Q & A time, which I think the volunteers appreciated.

“Davy worked really hard preparing holes with our augers. The farm has only received 0.25" of rain since Easter, so the ground was pretty solid. It was also great having an expert like Davy out there with me to contribute some thoughts and ideas to the discussion. There are exciting things ahead in the Silvopasture oak savanna restoration world. This was just the beginning for us!”

Keep an eye out for our follow-up event this fall at Living Song Farm in Howard Lake.
