Volunteers help restore 70 acres in Maplewood that open up trails and views for the community to enjoy.

Preserving Fish Creek Open Space in Maplewood will enhance one of the largest undeveloped open spaces in the area and a part of the Mississippi River flyway with views of the river valley.

More than 100 volunteers joined us this fall in a "Buckthorn Blast" to clear invasive species from Fish Creek Open Space. This is one of multiple events that Great River Greening has done and will continue to do as part of the ongoing restoration of the site.Located at the heart of Fish Creek Natural Area Greenway, the space comprises rolling hills with wide views, a prairie remnant, and oak and aspen woodlands. Restoring it both increases the buffer for Fish Creek and offers many recreation opportunities.

The 70 acres in Fish Creek Open Space offer:

• Public access to the bluff top and its incredible views over the Mississippi River Valley.
• Future trails winding through the rolling hills.
• Significantly improved access to existing county lands.
• Increased buffer for Fish Creek.
