Conservation grazing at historic Pilot Knob Hill

Great River Greening is hosting conservation grazing this summer at historic Pilot Knob HillThe practice links grazing animals to the health of soils and plants.Great River Greening has invited horse owners to take part in our ongoing restoration eff ort at Pilot Knob Hill, in Mendota Heights, by grazing their horses there on select dates.Conservation grazing, also called prescribed or management intensive grazing, is good for prairies. At Pilot Knob, horses will overgraze undesirable species, such as smooth brome and Kentucky bluegrass, and properly graze desirable warm season big bluestem, Indian grass, switchgrass, and overabundant Canada goldenrod.
